In the past few years, there has been a massive increase in the importance of short-form video content. 📈 📈 📈
In particular because of the rise of TikTok.
Does anyone feel like one day TikTok was some random app your little cousin was obsessed with -
And suddenly this ‘random app’ has taken over both your personal and professional life?
‘Cause, same. 😅
And as a content strategist and educator, I’ve done everything in my power to learn the ins and outs of TikTok.
Not only to help my business - but to teach you all how to leverage this new platform too.
And I’ve given you all my
You’ve seen ‘em all!
But today is the day where I give you all my TikTok 🔥 Hot Takes 🔥
So let’s get into some spicy TikTok opinions, shall we?
This might sound a little harsh but…
I find TikTok stories obnoxious! 😬
I know, I know I sound like such a hater, but based on my last couple of weeks of use - this feature is just not doing it for me.
Think of it this way 👇🏻👇🏻
On Instagram, stories serve a completely different function than any other post.
You can post polls, stickers, links, save them to a highlight - the possibilities are endless!
With TikTok stories on the other hand…
The content is exactly the same as your regular feed - except all your hard work disappears after 24 hours! 🧐 🧐
Why the hell would I want that?
Unless TikTok finds a way for stories to stay available on my profile - I’ll stick to spending my energy on the videos that will *actually* last on my feed.
AND NOT TO MENTION (Sorry, I’m getting really heated now 😂)...
TikTok stories show up in your audience’s feed just like any other video!
Unlike IG stories – which are found in a completely different section of the app.
You go through all the effort of posting to your TikTok story only for it to behave like regular content (but only gets 24hrs worth of views)!
So weird, friends. I’m not into it. 😒 😒
All this is not to say I don’t use this feature - I do!
I’m a firm believer that using all the features of an app is the best way to get to know a platform.
But as of right now…I’m on the fence.
For now, I’ve got two things I want to use TikTok stories for:
I am actively posting on my story asking for audience feedback.
⚡ Did this show up on your following page or For You Page?
⚡ Do you see my regular content? Or just stories?
⚡ What kind of content do you like to watch on TikTok stories?
⚡ What do you think of this feature?
Because as someone who spends so much time on social media -
If I’m confused - my audience must be HELLA confused about how to make TikTok stories worth their time. 😳
So for now I’m gonna use TikTok stories to research TikTok Stories.
While yes - TikTok is a more casual platform, some of us still spend a lot of time and energy editing our videos outside of the app.
But between the time where you shoot the content and push out the edited video, TikTok stories might be a good place to share some BTS. 🎥 🎥 🎉
Do I think that you could also just post some casual BTS content straight to your feed instead of on a feature that gets deleted in 24 hours?
On the one hand, yes.
But TikTok stories might be an even more casual feature on this already casual app.
To show the behind-the-scenes of what it looks like to share the content you make.
For me, I might show some BTS of a speaking engagement I did 🎤 🎤
Take my audience through my day with me.
And then when I’ve gone home and had time to edit a more polished mini vlog - I can do that too.
So I get double the mileage from the content, in a sense.
As you can see, while I’m still on the fence about TikTok stories, I’m still making the best of this feature. And I’d highly encourage you to do the same.
And hey, maybe you’ll fall in love with TikTok stories! 🧡
If you do - I am begging you to let me know what to do with them. 😂
Almost every time I open TikTok, I see someone doing a video that could be almost an exact copy of something I’ve posted before.
And the first hundred times I was like:
“Ouch, that’s my thing! 😭 😭 😭’
But now that I’m starting to know TikTok a little better, I realize…that’s just how this app goes.
The market saturation for every single industry is off the charts. 📈 📈
At first, scrolling past hundreds of videos talking about similar things to me had me thinking:
“Oh my god. There is no place for me here. What am I even doing? Why am I wasting my time on this app?”
Hell - I’ve even seen people say word.for.word. exactly what I’ve said in a previous video.
And it took me a while to realize this but 👇🏻👇🏻
❌ Market Saturation is NOT an excuse to avoid making TikTok content ❌
It just isn’t.
First things first - you’ve gotta reframe your attitude around who gets to talk about what online.
Maybe there are a billion other people talking about content creation online.
But there is room for everyone.
⚡ There is room for YOU ⚡
Because no one else has your exact set of experiences, areas of expertise, or even personality traits that make you special.
So don’t worry about what everyone else is doing on TikTok. 🙅🏻♀️ 🙅🏻♀️ 🙅🏻♀️
Reframe the “market saturation” narrative, and start focusing on being authentically you.
When I first got on TikTok, my main focus was giving out social media tips, tricks, and hacks.
Which was great! 🎉
It helped me build my audience and establish myself on the platform.
But - in order for me to stand out in this oversaturated market of social media experts on TikTok, I’ve had to switch my content strategy.
And if you want to stand out, you probably should too!
Rather than showing up and trying to prove your expertise by saying:
“Here are all the things I can do/teach you for free”
Show up and share who you are, what your journey has been, and how that has made you the business owner you are today.
Because anyone can make a video giving out social media tips.
But not everyone can make a video saying here’s what I’ve learned from TEN YEARS in the marketing world.
THAT’S the thing that will set me apart from the crowd. ✅ ✅
And as soon as I started to leverage that - I no longer had to fear that the market was “oversaturated”.
Being yourself and sharing what makes you different from the crowd is either going to resonate with people – or repel people.
I always use the example of swearing.
I like to be really honest and unfiltered in my video content.
You’ll see me say ‘fuck’ or ‘shit’ or whatever other choice words come to mind when I get super passionate about my work.
And that either repels people who are like, “UGH who is this girl! She needs to wash her mouth out with soap! 😤 😤”
Or they’re like, “I fuckin’ LOVE how candid Amber is. I wanna stick around for more 💃🏻 💃🏻”
And you know what?
Even something as simple as that can help set me apart from the sea of other content strategists on TikTok.
Showing a little window into my personality.
I’m a chill girl, I drop f-bombs! And at the same time, I’m also really fucking good at my job 💅🏻😉
Being yourself online helps you weed out the people who won’t be the right fit for you anyway.
It’s time we stop using “market saturation” as an excuse not to show up on TikTok.
Let’s face it - TikTok is the way of the world now.
So the sooner you unlearn your fear of an oversaturated market - the better. ✅ ✅ ✅
Ok, hear me out.
Contrary to popular belief, I believe it is possible to sell your high-ticket offers on TikTok.
So many people seem to think that TikTok is a younger audience and that they aren’t ready to buy high-ticket items.
🙅🏻♀️ And all I have to say is that is simply not true anymore. 🙅🏻♀️
Maybe a year ago, I would have believed you.
Back when TikTok was some random app your little cousin was obsessed with.
But let me be the first person to admit that as a grown-ass woman - TikTok has got me completely hooked!
And I’m certain I’m not the only one.
Everyone (and I mean EVERYONE!) is on this app.
And the beauty of TikTok content (vs. Instagram, for example) is that any piece of content you produce can reach any TikTok user at any time.
You have the biggest potential reach of any platform.
Don’t just show people your freebies.
Don’t just talk about your $50 offers.
You could go viral for goodness sake.
Why not share your biggest, most exciting offers! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This is not the time to be modest, my friends.
⚡ Did you grow a client’s account from 1000 to TEN thousand followers? Show us.
⚡ Did you plan a 200,000-dollar wedding? Show us.
⚡ Did you do a 500,000-dollar remodel of your client’s home?
📣 THIS IS WHAT TIKTOK WANTS TO SEE 📣
People are scrolling and scrolling and scrolling through a never-ending stream of videos.
More than any other platform this is the place to share something that will 🛑 stop the scroll 🛑 and get people to watch what you have to offer.
Just because TikTok has a more casual vibe - doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a younger crowd.
Your ideal client is out there. Hell, EVERYONE is out there.
So make sure you’re using TikTok to market your high-ticket offers.
I’m not gonna lie - when TikTok first cropped up I was like:
“Ugh noooooo. Not another app for me to learn! 😩”
But I’m hooked.
I love this app.
🧡 🧡 🧡
But we’re still getting to know the power that TikTok holds which is why I thought sharing these hot takes might be useful.
✨ Found solace in my rant against TikTok stories
✨ Found the confidence to be yourself and combat market saturation
