How to Save Time by Batching Your Video Content

May 04, 2022

Have you been thinking about introducing more videos into your content strategy?

You know I’m ALL about it! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ

But every time you think about creating video content… you start panicking about how little time you have to make that happen.

I want to introduce you to a video content strategy that has saved my life.

That strategy is:

โšก Video content batching โšก

I get it - the idea of ‘batching’ has taken the online business industry by storm.

So maybe you’re starting to get a *little* sick of hearing it.

But I am here to tell you that there is a very, very good reason that the concept of ‘batching’ has gained so much traction in the past few years.

The Benefits of Batching Video Content

More than any other content strategy, batching your content saves you some serious time.

And your time is so damn precious! โณ โณ

If you’re going to take the time to introduce video content into your marketing, you want to make sure it’s something you’ll be able to keep up with consistently.

If it becomes an overwhelming time-suck, it’s going to be that much more likely you’ll drop the ball.

So why is batching so efficient? ๐Ÿค”

Batching your video content lets maximize the time you spend in video creation mode.

It’s easy to underestimate just how much work goes into recording great video footage!

โ˜€๏ธ Getting good lighting

๐ŸŽฅ Setting up your camera

๐Ÿ’„ Putting on a cute outfit and makeup…

Trust me…you don’t want to have to do this stuff more than you absolutely must, friend!

The core principle of batching is that once you’re in the zone - you record all the content you need at once.

That way you make the most of your resources and time.

In my experience, the best way to batch video content is to do a few mini weekly batches and one big video batching day per month.

I know that sounds like a lot, but trust me - but this system helps video content creation feel so manageable!

Today I want to break down how to master your weekly AND monthly video content batching sessions. โœ… โœ… โœ…

I’ll give you a behind-the-scenes look at what I do for my own business PLUS some specific goals you can use to help maximize your own video batching sessions.๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

Weekly Batching

First up, we’ve got weekly video batching.

I bet that when you heard that I was suggesting that you batch your content weekly and monthly you thought:

“Amber, I don’t have time for all that. Why can’t I just squeeze it all in on one day per month?!๐Ÿ˜ซ”

I’ll tell you why.

Social media moves fast. โšกโšกโšก

For a few days, everyone will be talking about a new trend or pop culture event. And then all of a sudden…BOOM we’re on to the next one.

Social media trends don’t have time to wait for your monthly content batching session.

Which is why I suggest having a mini video batching day weekly.

What you need to do is block off a set chunk of time in your schedule. ๐Ÿ“…

For a weekly batch, it doesn’t have to be a full day. Just a half-day will do. Or even a couple of hours!

I personally like to batch my weekly video content on Tuesday mornings before the week gets away from me.

And I am telling you - mark yourself as out of office. ๐Ÿ“… โŒ

Don’t make yourself available for any other tasks.

Get your set up going, put on a cute ‘fit, and get down to business.

By being intentional about how you are going to use that time, your content creation process will be so much more effective.

No pausing to take calls, answer emails, or any other distraction you can come up with. ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿป‍โ™€๏ธ

Here are two types of content I always make sure to film during my weekly video batching sessions:

๐ŸŽฅ Video Replies ๐ŸŽฅ

The first thing you’re going to want to do in your weekly batching session?

Make your video reply videos!

For me, that looks like making replies to TikTok comments I’ve saved.

But It could also be responding to an AMA on Instagram stories.

Try not to feel like you have to make video responses as soon as the comment comes in. Instead, save it for the weekly content batch.

You’ll be more in the zone and it will be a way better use of your time. โšกโšก

๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป Jumping on Trends ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป

The next task you want to complete is jumping on trends.

So between weekly content batching sessions, you need to be saving and favoriting any trending audios you want to use, videos you want to stitch, or TikToks you want to duet.

You're consuming a lot of content. ๐Ÿคฏ

Make your process easier on yourself by taking note of what videos you want to create in your next weekly batch.

I have even joined a subscription service that sends trending audios straight to my inbox!

Here are the details if you want to check it out!

Being intentional about filming trends will allow you to stay current – without being glued to your phone every day afraid  that you’ll miss out.  โœ…

How To Schedule Your Weekly Batching Videos

Listen - I’m not suggesting that once a week you blast your social media pages with all your weekly video content.

Post a few, keep a few in your drafts. But rest easy knowing that when you want to post some amazing video content, you've got some current, high-quality content ready to go out.

For me, this takes one morning per week. โœ…

But my whole business revolves around content creation, so this is a major priority for me.

This doesn’t have to look the same for your business.

But whether it takes you 30 minutes or 3 hours, having a weekly content batching session is a great use of your precious time. โฐ ๐Ÿงก

Monthly Batching

In order to have a highly effective monthly batch day - I actually block off a full workday.

I don’t schedule anything else. ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿป‍โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿป‍โ™€๏ธ

If you struggle with setting boundaries around your time, I know this can feel tough.

But it’s so essential.

Recording large amounts of high-quality video content takes a TON of energy.

And you don’t want to break up that creative energy with any other tasks.

Or worse…have to tack on some more work at the end of a long recording day. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

So don’t worry if it's going to take you 3 hours or 7 hours to get the job done.

Block off the FULL day.

And this may seem obvious, but…

Be sure to plan ahead.

Don’t show up for a 6 hour recording day with no idea what you will be talking about for the month.

Take a little time before the day and jot down some ideas. Make a list of video concepts. ๐Ÿ“

Hell - you could even write a script if that’s your jam! ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป โœจ

Here is everything you should make sure you’re planning during your monthly content batching day. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Long-Form Content

If you’re incorporating long-form video into your content strategy - you absolutely must batch it. โšกโšก

Long-form content is often the hardest type of content to record. So once you’re in the zone, keeping up the momentum is key.

For me, my long-form content batching process looks like recording four 10-15 minute Youtube videos, as that’s my platform of choice.

Maybe you prefer to do Instagram videos or Loom trainings instead.

Whatever works for you, my friend! ๐Ÿงก

But on these long AF recording days, get a few long-form videos under your belt for the month.

This long-form stuff takes serious brainpower. ๐Ÿง โšก

So make sure to plan it all out ahead of time. That way,  you can focus on recording high-quality content…and not get distracted wondering what you’re going to talk about.

Putting a lot of energy and effort into planning amazing Youtube videos is so worth it to me.

That way, my team has an easier time repurposing them using the hero content strategy we’ve implemented to be consistent on multiple platforms!

Strategic Short-Form Content

As much as trends can be fun, they’re actually not the most important of your social media strategy.

Ok - maybe if you’re an influencer or something. ๐Ÿ˜‰

But for us online business owners, we need to be showing up and serving our community through strategic short-form video content.

During my monthly content batching sessions, I like to record short-form video content that has a little more substance to it.

For example, I always record 4 videos that correspond to my monthly Youtube videos.

That way, I can use them to point people to my Youtube channel.

This is also a great time to record any educational content you want to push out this month.

Or maybe even some sales videos outlining your offers! ๐Ÿค‘

You can always use this time to hop on a few trends as well. But I recommend using most of your energy to create intentional, original content. โœ…

B-Roll Content

Finally, we’ve got b-roll footage. ๐ŸŽฅ

This type of video content is all the rage on social media right now.

All it is is short video clips that have a bit of visual interest… but don’t have any talking.

Some examples might be:

๐ŸŽฅ A timelapse of your workflow

โ˜• Your morning coffee routine

๐ŸŒ‡ A clip of your view out your window

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ A BTS of your recording session.

Having this kind of footage on hand is great for anyone wanting to integrate more video into their content strategy.

First one thing, it’s super easy to film.

And two, it’s great to batch it because you can start growing a library full of it to draw on for any future videos.

Which can come in SUPER handy for those days when you need B-roll but your house is messy and you're slumming around in your PJs. ๐Ÿ˜‚

So take advantage of your recording day and get some footage that will make you look like you have your life together!

Pro tip: Next time you have a content batching session, record a time-lapse of your workday on another device. BOOM - b-roll. โœ… โœ…

On my big monthly batch days, I personally go content creation crazy. ๐Ÿ™ˆ

I go so far as to record intros to my TikToks and save them as drafts - just to make use of my full face of makeup.

At the end of a really good recording day, I could have as many as 20 new pieces of content.

But might not necessarily be your goal. You have to figure out what works for you and your business!

I’m a plan-ahead type of girl. I like to know my video content is well taken care of in advance so that I can focus on running my business for the rest of the month.

With these things in mind, take a few minutes this week to plan out some goals for a monthly content batching session.

I promise you…grouping these recordings together will save you SO much time.

Plus - you get to limit the days you need to get dolled up and instead spend more days in your PJs!

What more could you want? ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป

I truly can’t stress enough how important it is to batch your content in a way that suits your unique business.

If you’re new to the content batching process - this may sound a little overwhelming.

I know it was for me when I started out! ๐Ÿ˜…

But after years of trial and error, I’ve worked out some amazing systems. Systems that have transformed my content creation process and freed up so much of my time.
