3 Types of Instagram Posts to Skyrocket Your Engagement

Jun 07, 2021

Looking to BOOST your engagement on the ‘gram?

You’ve come to the right spot πŸ€“

I know how TOTALLY frustrating it can be to put hours and hours on work into your Instagram content, only to get crickets in return πŸ¦—

Is there anything worse?! 😩

If your Instagram account is suffering from a case of low engagement, do not fear. I’ve got the exact cure to get your engagement rate going through the roof in no time.

Success on IG all comes down to creating content that your followers genuinely want to engage with. Whether your post starts a conversation in the comments, gives value so they want to save for next time, or makes them LOL so they want to share with all their friends - THIS is the kind of content NEED to be posting.

Over the years, I’ve analyzed the post types that consistently get me the best engagement on Instagram and that’s exactly what I’m sharing with you today.

Let’s get into the 3 best posts to take your engagement rate from zero to hero πŸ‘‡πŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ»

#1 - Quote Posts

The first type of Instagram post that always performs well on my Instagram is a good old-fashioned quote post. πŸ’¬

Not only are they visually attractive and can easily catch your audience's eye, but they are super shareable.

Sharing a quote is a great way to strike an emotional chord in your audience, motivate them, or touch on something important happening in the world.

But here’s the thing: You don't want your entire feed to be quote after quote that looks exactly the same. πŸ™…πŸ»‍β™€οΈπŸ™…πŸ»‍♀️

SO how do you use quote posts consistently to increase engagement without boring your audience to tears?

You switch it up!

Luckily there are a TON of ways to make a quote post. βœ…

Here are the three ways I use that help me boost my engagement on my own Instagram.πŸ‘‡πŸ»

Tweets

As weird as it sounds, some of my highest-performing quote posts are actually screenshots from Twitter.

Before you go looking for me on Twitter I’m just gonna be honest and say I use my private Twitter account *exclusively* for making IG posts. πŸ˜‚

Whether you decide to throw that screenshot on top of a branded background or keep it plain and simple, your audience is sure to LOVE this kind of post. ❀️‍πŸ”₯

Pretty Picture

For this type of quote post I like to head over to Canva and find a stock image that suits my brand, or maybe even use a photo I’ve taken!

It could be a picture of a cool graffiti wall, a blank notebook page, or even a cool landscape.

Whatever you think will make your audience stop their scroll. πŸ‘€

I just add the quote on top in the appropriate font and BOOM - I’ve made an extremely shareable graphic. πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Now, not only do my followers get value from this post, but it is SO pretty they feel compelled to share it to their story or their grid and their followers will benefit from it too.

Give ‘Em Options

Sometimes I stumble across an amazing post and I wanna re-post it SO bad, but the graphic just really doesn’t suit my brand. 😩😩

Maybe I’m crazy picky about this kind of stuff, but I have found a great hack for this problem that helps people re-post my quote posts no matter what branding they have.

I like to give ‘em options.

I get it! My signature amber/brown color doesn’t vibe with everyone’s brand...

SO - what I like to do is repost the same quote in many different colors in a carousel post. 🌈

The first slide is always in my signature style, but I give my audience a bunch of different options always remembering to include a very neutral choice so that no matter what someone’s brand is, they can re-share my post.

This is SUCH a fun and simple tactic to make sure that your content is shared all over the place. πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

#2 Memes

The next highest performing Instagram post out there is a meme post.

Now I’m not gonna lie, when I first started doing these I found them pretty tough. 😬

The pressure to be funny while ALSO relating the content back to my business was more than I could handle TBH.

But once I got into the flow of it, I realized how fun and powerful these posts can be. ⚑⚑

Meme posts have actually become my new favorite way to sell products.

Think of it this way. Some sales-y graphic saying, “30% OFF MY SIGNATURE COURSE ALL WEEKEND” gives you zero value if you aren’t looking to buy that product.

So your audience is likely to just keep scrolling. No like, no comment, nothing. ❌

I don’t blame them!

But if instead, you share a cute meme around your product, (especially a meme that tackles your ideal customer’s pain point!) your followers can have a quick laugh, like your post, comment on it, or even re-post it for their own followers to enjoy.

Now both you AND your client have gotten some serious value whether or not they purchase your product. βœ…

But again, you don’t want your whole IG feed to be full of memes.

Trust me.

So here are a few different ways to add variety to your feed while using memes to boost your Instagram engagement.πŸ‘‡πŸ»

Image meme

This is the tried and true type of meme and probably what comes to mind when you think of this kind of post.

The image meme often blends in well with the rest of your feed.

I like to use images from the office or from my fav celebs like Beyonce or Riri. 😍😍

In general, these work well because they don't clutter up your feed too much, but they’re still super relatable to your following.

GIFs/Videos

This is where you want to be careful of clutter.

GIFs are great, especially in the current social media climate where people want EVERYTHING to be a video.

GIFs really split the difference between a picture and a video.

Great! People eat that up. πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

But using GIFs too much CAN make your feed a little cluttered, so use these sparingly and think carefully if you really want that GIF on your feed forever before posting.

Notifications

Sooooo this might not be considered a meme, but it is certainly a trend.

Creating posts that resemble notifications is ALL the rage these days.

For exampleπŸ‘‡πŸ»

A post that resembles an iPhone reminder or an Instagram sticker.

These are extremely powerful because they encourage a high level of engagement.

Of course, your audience can’t actually tap on the reminder or answer the question, but the image of that triggers their brains to engage further with the post.

These posts are highly likely to encourage your followers to comment or take action. ⚑⚑

#3 Carousel Posts

Carousel posts can be used for SO many different things.

Maybe one of these days I’ll make a carousel post about all the different ways to use carousel posts… πŸ€”

My favorite thing to use carousel posts for is to educate.πŸ“š

This is how I often do my tutorials or provide case studies.

The sweet spot for me is to make my carousel posts between 4 to 7 slides.

Under 4 slides, I don’t have enough space to deliver serious value, and over 7 slides I start losing people.

My #1 tip for carousel posts is to ALWAYS include a call to action on the final slides. ⚑

Whether you are asking them to like, comment, share or save your post and THEN take it to the next level and send them to a link in your bio to sign up for X, Y, or Z.

To keep things interesting you can always use a variety of media in your carousels, from pictures to infographics, to GIFs and videos, but remember to always deliver some kind of value to your clients in this type of post. βœ…

I never really use carousels to sell my products and services - but they often lead to the highest boost in sales. πŸ“ˆ

It’s such a great way to show that you have some seriously epic knowledge to impart and often convert potential clients to PAID clients.

Carousels are also my most SAVED posts.

And you know what they say: the “save” is the new “like”.

It’s time to start creating carousel posts that people will want to keep in their digital back pockets.

If you wanna see all these posts in action you can give my IG a follow @a_creativeco.

And - if you go ahead and put any of these tips into practice please give me a tag! I wanna celebrate your genius! ❀️‍πŸ”₯
