What To Do When You DON'T Feel Like Creating Content

May 25, 2022

So what do you do when you absolutely MUST get a post out on Instagram…

…but you have zero creative energy to make it happen?

There’s nothing worse than having some serious content goals while SERIOUSLY lacking the motivation to create.

Even worse is when this feeling strikes when you’ve carved out time to plan content for the whole day…or even the whole month!

😅 I’ve been there! 😅

It’s true. Even though this is my career and my passion, I’ve had many moments of feeling uninspired.

Let’s be real – this happens to every content creator out there.

Don’t believe me?

I can send you screenshots of the hundreds of DMs I’ve received saying:

“Amber, please help! What do I do when I don’t feel like creating content? 😫 😫 😫”

I help people with this exact problem on a daily basis, so I’ve got a few tricks of the trade.

Let’s dive into the 4 things you can do when you DON’T feel like creating content👇🏻

#1 - Repurpose Content

The first thing I would always recommend when you find yourself in a content creation rut is to repurpose old content.

Not just any old content.

High-performing content

Look back at your most beloved posts and find a way to reuse them.

The best kind of content to repurpose is 🌲 EVERGREEN 🌲

Evergreen posts stand the test of time.

Trends come and go, but this kind of content is always relevant.

Repurposing could look like:

👉🏻 Turning a carousel post into a Reel.

👉🏻 Or turning that reel into a Twitter thread.

But it can be even more simple.

I’m giving you full permission to repost your best content with very minimal changes.

I’m gonna be honest - I’ve reposted some of my best graphics with only a few tweaks to the caption.

And time after time, my audience loves it. 🧡

Listen…don’t just keep reposting and reposting the same content on a loop.

BUT - doing it every once in a while is a great way to overcome a content creation slump. ✅

#2 - Draw From Your Content Library

Next up we’ve got the trusty content library.

You’re probably thinking:

“Amber, I barely have it in me to keep up with my monthly content. How do you expect me to make extra content for my content library?”

I hear ya! 🧡

And I am by no means asking you to make extra content. 🙅🏻‍♀️

I just want you to start thinking of everything as content so that you always have extra content without all the extra work.

Did you join someone’s live stream recently? Save the recording to your library. ✅

Did you and your team have a fantastic meeting this week? Keep that zoom recording somewhere. ✅

That way, when you find yourself dreading having to come up with fresh new content ideas - you can draw on this library.

You can take a look at your content bank and grab some audio, use a fun clip of your team, or even find a quote of you saying something iconic on a podcast or interview.

This is also a great place to save old posts so you always have something to repurpose!

Starting today, work towards saving things to your content library.

That way the next time you’re drawing a content creating blank - you know where to look.

#3 - Leverage B-Roll

This third tip has taken the content creation world by storm.

And this tip is to use B-roll footage. 🎥

So if you’re looking for ways to show up on your IG story, TikTok, or Reels with less effort - solid B-roll footage will CHANGE the game!

This could be time-lapses of your workflow, your morning coffee routine, or even stock videos.

Anything that has a little bit of visual interest that could act as the background of any video content.

If you start collecting a folder full of b-roll footage, you can create amazing content from the comfort of your couch with very minimal effort. ✅

Throw a quote or a Twitter screenshot on some excellent b-roll and - BOOM - there’s your post.

So start getting in the habit of recording b-roll footage as a part of your video content strategy.

Thank me later! 😉

#4 - Paid Memberships

My final tip is to subscribe to some paid products to help you with content creation.

By investing a little bit of cash into this type of service, you take some pressure off yourself to be constantly generating new ideas.

For me, this looks like subscribing to a template subscription “Your Template Club”.

I love this product because I receive some amazing new Canva and caption templates in my inbox every two weeks! Then I just go into Canva and personalize them. They’re ready to use whenever I could use the inspiration!

If you have it in your budget to invest in a service like this, I would highly recommend it. ⚡

Now, having low-energy days where I don’t want to create content from scratch doesn’t phase.

I just head over to my template subscription and it’s all taken care of. ✅

I know that the content creation process can have some serious highs and lows.

One day you’re on top of the world filled with creative energy.

And the next - you’re down in the dumps wondering how you can even open the app and start.

I know the feeling all too well. 😅

Which is why I created The Content System. 🎉 🎉

My new course is dedicated to helping you create a content system that works for you and your small business.

If that sounds like something you need I want you to join the waitlist now so you’ll be the first to hear when registration opens.

See you there! 👋🏻
