Where Have I Been? Getting Vulnerable About Social Media Burnout

Nov 10, 2021

Do you ever feel like you need to switch off? From business, social media, or just in general?

You regularly feel:

πŸ€’ SUPER burnt out
😰 Routinely stressed and anxious
😴 Constantly exhausted and lifeless

Don’t worry friend, it happens to the best of us.

Today I'm going to talk to you ALL about where I've been on social media.

In case you follow me over on Instagram and Tiktok, you may have noticed that I've gone completely GHOST over the last month... πŸ‘»

And that’s for a very good reason.

I want to explain that to you today. πŸ‘‡πŸ»

There Have Been Some Big Changes

We're all human.

We all go through these experiences in life and big changes can happen that can often change your priorities

Not only did I have to devote a lot of time and energy to my personal life, but to serving my clients, my business, and my customers.

Social media just HAD to take a backseat.

I was in the process of a BIG house move while working on some things in my business that are really going to propel me forward.

The Reality of Social Media Burnout

In all honesty, I was just about DONE with Instagram and TikTok. πŸ™…‍♀️

Content creation became overwhelming. All these new features and all these different types of content that I needed to be creating. I honestly just needed a freaking break!

While this is my career, it’s my passion, and I truly enjoy it, I realized that I needed to take a step back, reevaluate, and look at what I TRULY want for my business.

While I often do this for my clients and I preach this to other people, I found I wasn’t actually doing it for MYSELF! 🀦‍♀️

I needed to peel back the layers and figure out what it is that I loved about content creation and how I wanted to put myself out on social media. And honestly? Just take a second for a breather!

Prioritizing Social Media Wellness

Because what I realized as I took this step back is -

❌ I was focused on my business, and that was IT. ❌

While I did have SOME systems in place to step away and dedicate time to my personal life, I realized I still had such a heavy hand in my business’s social media and content creation process. Social media was still eating up a HUGE part of my life.

That's something I want to revolutionize.

I want to change the way we market our businesses so we can all grow in a more sustainable way. Because as much as I love Gary Vee and all the other marketing gurus out there...

We don't have a team of 20 people pumping out content (unfortunately!

I want to think of a way that makes it super easy for small business owners, like me and you, to be able to produce as MUCH content as needed for their business, while also maintaining a sense of mental wellness.

You DON’T work for TikTok

Over the course of this last month, I sat down and realized some things.

As a social media strategist, I obviously spend A LOT of my time on social media.

I'm creating not only for myself but for my clients.

I started to FEEL like I was working for Instagram and TikTok

And if I can leave you with one thing, it’s this -

⚠️ We do not work for these companies. ⚠️

Do the constant changes to these apps have you feeling SUPER burnt out? Stressed and anxious? Or just downright EXHAUSTED? 😴

Understand that although we do use these apps for our business, they DO NOT control us.

That's going to be my mantra for the rest of this year and into 2022. πŸ’ͺ

Rather than feeling like a slave to social media, think of these platforms as tools in your arsenal. You’re not a 9-5 employee for TikTok or Instagram - you get to build your business your way.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some rules we have to play by, but you don't have to play by all of them!

You don't have to be posting a million bajillion times a day in order to be successful

I want to start changing that narrative and make it feel a little less overwhelming. Not only for myself but for ALL small business owners out there!

How I’m Taking Action

In the very near future, I'm gonna be talking about how I was able to keep a lot of my content going, even while I had to press pause.

I’ll be giving the full lowdown on how I was able to step away for a WHOLE MONTH, but YouTube content, newsletter content, and blog content still went out.

Regardless.

Head over to my YouTube and subscribe to make sure you don’t miss it.πŸ“ΉπŸ“Ή
